White Horse & Highland Queens
The unparalleled splendor of the Kashmir Valley is legendary! In the words of the greatest of the Sanskrit poets Kalidas, Kashmir is "more beautiful than heaven and is the benefactor of supreme bliss and happiness." Kashmir's greatest historian Kalhan called it the "best place in the Himalayas - a country where the sun shines mildly”.

The 19th century British historian Sir Walter Lawrence wrote about it: "The valley is an emerald set in pearls; a land of lakes, clear streams, green turf, magnificent trees and mighty mountains where the air is cool, and the water sweet, where men are strong, and women vie with the soil in fruitfulness. “ The city is located on both the sides of the Jhelum River, which is called Vyath in Kashmir.
The river passes through the city and meanders through the valley, moving onward and deepening in the Wular Lake. The city is famous for its nine old bridges, connecting the two parts of the city. . Hokersar is a wetland situated near Srinagar the capital of Indian Kashmir. Thousands of migratory birds come to Hokersar from Siberia and other regions in the winter season. Migratory birds from Siberia and Central Asia use the wetlands in Kashmir as their transitory camps between September and October and again around spring. These wetlands play a vital role in sustaining a large population of wintering, staging and breeding birds. The city has beautiful houseboats which are located in Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, and the river Jhelum. Kashmir is also known as the land of Sufism. Kashmir is the only place in India where Muslims have surnames such as 'pandit' and 'bhat'. The Kashmiri Hindus and Muslims have a distinctive culture and way of living. Even the Sufis of Kashmir are of a special type. Dal Lake is one of the most bewildering water bodies of India and the second largest in the J&K state. Majestic mountains and numerous gardens and orchards laid along the shores, envelop its three sides. Dal Lake is unique in having hundreds of houseboats, which afford an opportunity to tourists to inhabit by the lake in a troposphere of peace and tranquility.
